Halloween crafts are all over Pinterest, and we know it can be tough to choose. Your time is precious, especially during the go-go-go fall season. But if you’ve got 10 minutes, add this simplified tutorial to the top of your list.

Pumpkins are a symbol of fall — we can bake them, decorate with them, and smell them in the scented candle form to our hearts’ content. You may appreciate the humble gourd even more when you hear that, though pumpkins are grown in every continent except Antarctica, the official “pumpkin capital of the world” is right here in the U.S., in Morton, Illinois. Morton is the city where the Libby’s Corporation produces its endless stream of pumpkin products. The use of pumpkins for food dates back to the Native Americans, while the early versions of the Halloween jack-o’-lanterns we know today were carved by the Irish and Scottish from potatoes and turnips for Celtic celebrations. After arriving in America, European settlers used the country’s pumpkins to carry on their tradition.

As an emblem of harvest and a sign of a special season to come, there’s much to celebrate about the pumpkin. Make this easy pumpkin garland out of yarn, and you can enjoy the festive fruits of your labor when you decorate for fall each year.
